Head of Ramses II at the Luxor Temple, Egypt

Dating back to 3,200 years, the Statue of Ramesses II depicts the king in a standing position. Constructed with red granite, this 11 meters tall statue was discovered at the Great Temple of Ptah by Giovanni Battista Caviglia in 1820.

Broken into multiple pieces, the statue was restored to its original height over the years by various restoration methods. At the present day, the Statue of Ramesses II stands on a three-metre pedestal, inside the Grand Egyptian Museum. Weighing around 7.25 tons, the Statue of Ramesses II is one of the largest sculptures of Egypt.
