The Dragon Carp Statue is an iconic statue on the eastern bank of the Han River in Da Nang, Vietnam. It’s depicted as a mythical creature with the head of a dragon and the body of a carp fish. Generally, it symbolizes the dramatic transformation of the city in recent decades.
The Dragon Carp Statue of Da Nang is 7.5 meters tall, standing on a 4.3-meters-tall. It’s created by 5 pieces of white marble sourcing from Quy Hop’s stone mountains, nearly 600 km away from Da Nang, and weighs up to 200 tons. It’s carved by a team of 28 sculptors in Non Nuoc Stone Carving Village near the Marble Mountains, of which fine art stone carving tradition has been from the 17th century. On 13th April 2015, after 3 months of production, it moved from the village to its current location.
During the day, the Dragon Carp will shoot the water from its mouth, and at night, it’s lit by color-changing lamps. This is a must see for all first timers.
