The Virunga Mountains are a stunning chain of volcanoes in East Africa, straddling the borders of Rwanda, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), famous as the habitat for endangered mountain gorillas and golden monkeys. Part of the Albertine Rift, they are known for their eight major peaks, including the highest, Mount Karisimbi (4,507m), and active volcanoes like Nyiragongo, offering unique trekking and wildlife viewing within national parks like Volcanoes National Park (Rwanda) and Virunga National Park (DRC).
